Gear: LS2 Helmets present the new-for-2019 Challenger FF327

Sino-Spanish manufacturer LS2 Helmets (their head office and R&D centre are located on the outskirts of Barcelona) have a few new products in their lineup for 2019. Amongst them is the Challenger FF327.

This new flagship of LS2's range of touring helmets is aimed at bridging the gap between an aggressive sport-/track-oriented lid and a more subdued "daily rider" helmet. With that in mind it's not surprising to see that the design team based near the Catalan capital city have borrowed a fair few styling cues from their own Arrow C Evo helmet, while adding elements, such as the small spoiler towards the rear of the helmet that, if anything, make it even more aggressive to look at than the sleekly-styled Arrow Evo. This is definitely a lid aimed fair and square at sports roadster riders who want sports style and practicality in the same package.

Delving into the Challenger's nuts and bolts, the outer shell is made of HPFC, LS2's proprietary combination of fibreglass, aramid fibre and carbon fibre. This shell comes in three sizes (2XS-S, M-L and XL-3XL respectively). The five-part inner EPS lining is made of dual-density foam, with a softer density close to the skill and a harder density towards the outer shell. It includes air channels on its inner surface that work in conjunction with the plethora of air vents - at a glance, there are six vents on the top of the helmet alone. Given that in the Thruxtonian's experience, LS2 know a thing or two about making good ventilation systems, the Challenger FF327 should do a pretty good job of keeping your head cool in the summer months. The inner comfort lining is hypoallergenic and wicking, and is fully removable and washable.

The Challenger's viewport is gargantuan, just like the one on its Arrow C Evo sibling, ensuring maximum visibility, even when the rider is aerodynamically tucked away behind the fairing screen. The Class-A optically correct face shield is fitted with a "Pinlock" Max Vision 70 anti-fog lens; the icing on the cake is that it is also equipped with posts for tear-offs - expect to see clear, bug-splattered plastic sheets flapping about in the breeze on Sunday mornings, then! The helmet is also equipped with a retractable sun shield. The chinstrap is equipped with a micrometric quick-release buckle, to make it more practical in daily use.

The Challenger FF327 will be available in four solid colours (White, Matt Titanium, Matt Black and Black) and a variety of graphics including our favourites, the "Fusion" Blue Red featured here and "Magic" Wineberry Black. It will be on sale to the general public towards the end of November, at prices ranging between 299 € (solid) and 329 € (graphics).
