Indian announce new Chief, Springfield and Roadmaster for 2019

Meanwhile, in Spirit Lake, Iowa... Indian Motorcycle have announced that they are rolling out new technology on the 2019 Chief, Springfield and Roadmaster models, as well as new paint options for the Dark Horse range.

Selectable Rider Modes
On the new 2019 models, riders will be able to choose between three rider modes: Tour, Standard and Sport. Tour mode smooths out the throttle response for a more relaxed cruising experience. Standard mode will provide a crisper throttle response - presumably identical to that of current models. Finally, Sport mode provides a much sharper and more immediate throttle response for more spirited riding, clean getaways from traffic lights and to ensure decisive overtaking. Rider will be able to switch from one mode to another on the fly.

Rear Cylinder Deactivation
In order to improve rider comfort, from 2019 all bikes equipped with the Thunder Stroke 111 engine will feature rear cylinder deactivation. With this function, as soon as the engine reaches its optimal operating temperature and if the ambient temperature is above 15ºC (59ºF), the rear cylinder will automatically cut out when the bike is standing still; as soon as the throttle is opened, the rear cylinder restarts seamlessly.

Improved Airflow on Roadmaster Fairing Lowers
For 2019, the fairing lowers on the Roadmaster have been redesigned to provide more airflow for improved rider comfort. The new air vents can be easily adjusted from fully open to fully closed and all points in-between. It is interesting to note that these revised fairing lowers can be retrofitted to to pre-2019 machines with the addition of the redesigned highway bars.

Enhanced Audio System
The existing audio system on Indians will has undergone some significant improvements for 2019. Firstly, the tweeters are now separate from mid-range woofers for better output and clarity. Also, a fully adjustable dynamic equaliser has been included that automatically adjusts specific frequencies according to engine, road and wind noise, thus ensuring optimal sound quality from at any speed.

According to Indian Motorcycle's President, Steve Menneto, these improvements are a result of having paid close attention to rider feedback. Menneto also stated that Indian are committed to "delivering a best-in-class riding experience" and that these technologies are just an indication of what is to come in future Indian motorcycles.

Dark Horse models
In 2019, the Chief Dark Horse and Springfield Dark Horse models will be receiving various stylistic updates to further underline their no-nonsense custom appeal. All Dark Horse models will have gloss black finish on various engine casings, including the primary, valve and cam covers, the pushrod tubes as well as the exhaust and the side pannier hinges.

Moreover, the Springfield Dark Horse available in two colours: the existing Thunder Black Smoke and a new colour, White Smoke. The characteristic Indian headdress emblem returns to the front mudguard, which now covers a 19" contrast-cut front wheel. Also, the Springfield Dark Horse no longer features the windscreen and front highway bars in order to accentuate the motorbike's sleek and streamlined design.
